FairChoices Development Priorities
2026
Here is a list of new development features we promise to deliver before July 2026:
A new league table
Making it easier to rank order interventions by various metrics, create sub/packages and organize them by different types of taxonomies (e.g. UHC compendium, delivery platforms, age groups).
A “settings” tab
Where features can be added or removed from the analysis of interest (e.g. change discount rates, forecasting period, currency, which data to run on (UN pop division or GBD population)).
A separate for country specific analysis
Where country teams that are working in FairChoices will have their own login. The global web tool will be running on generic template data, but country analytics tool will run on local parametrized data. A separate validation feature will be developed for testing local models.
A more user-friendly parametrization system
Making it easier to add and update utilization and coverage of interventions.
A more tailored download feature
Tailored excel files with selected interventions, rather than the full package as it is now.
Improve taxonomy
Add more interventions and details per intervention.
Add a separate “Finance” tab
So that the financing of interventions that are given priority in “Set priority” are being made more explicit.
Improved workflow
Both management and technical solution for adding and updating new interventions.
Improve information about the certainty of evidence assumptions
A stronger academic referencing system (Zotero) will be implemented.
More interventions with indirect effects
Like essential emergency care, fever evaluation, etc., will be added.
An improved equity/fairness module
With more advanced analytics on lifetime health and how to deal with trade-offs between maximization and priority to worse-off (with proper documentation and possibility to turn on/off in “Settings”), inclusion of social welfare functions (different shapes of weighing various ethical concerns – priority to young/old), make a separate tab where cost-effectiveness thresholds are selected for each of the equity criteria in the tool.
Update generic epidemiological/demographic input
With GBD 2023 data.
Update NHA data for all countries
A new metric
Average number of healthy years gained gained per patient per intervention, will be added as a new column in league table.
Substantive refactoring
To make it easier for onboarding of researchers and collaborating partners to use and develop the analytical codes for the model.
Technical features
New data storage system (Amazon S3), a safer data storage with filter systems, and info boxes for all metrics being used.

- Allow users to adjust thresholds, weight ranges, and apply continuous scoring functions.
Indirect effects Pilot Modelling
- Begin modelling indirect effects of interventions (EECC) as a pilot project outside FairChoices.
3. Data Input, Access & Export
Advanced input tool
- Introduce advanced input tool beta version.
- Add taxonomy features to the beta tool.
- Add taxonomy draft feature.
Input & Data Validation
- Enable uploading of baseline coverage data directly from Excel.
- Show warnings if baseline coverage values exceed 100%.
Dataset Availability
- Allow downloading of all input datasets (PIN, coverage, unit costs) in CSV or Excel format.
Results Export
- Enable export of filtered results for selected interventions.
- Make all tables, figures, and results downloadable (CSV, XLSX, PNG, PDF).
Definitions & Guidance
- Add a definitions section and hover-over explanations for all columns and metrics.
