FairChoices 2025 Development Priorities
Key features and enhancements we plan to deliver by the end of 2025.
1. Cost Analysis & Equity Integration
– Equity Module
- Introduce an equity-focused module considering lifetime ICERs, start/stop ages, and weighting assumptions.
- Add warnings when unacceptable trade-offs occur (e.g., prioritizing one age group unfairly).
– Cost Overview
- Create a total cost panel summarizing costs across interventions and scenarios.
- Integrate total budgets from the “Set Budget” tab.
– Micro-Costing
- Develop new micro-costing tools, starting with maternal and neonatal interventions as test cases.
2. Equity and Ethical Decision-Making
– Priority Setting Guidance
- Publish a short concept note explaining how we think about priority setting.
– Criteria Weighting
- Add a flexible module for weighting multiple criteria within the equity framework.
- Introduce a simple points system (1–3) for ranking interventions.
- Allow users to adjust thresholds, weight ranges, and apply continuous scoring functions.
– Indirect effects Pilot Modelling
- Begin modelling indirect effects of interventions (EECC) as a pilot project outside FairChoices.
3. Data Input, Access & Export
– Advanced input tool
- Introduce advanced input tool beta version.
- Add taxonomy features to the beta tool.
– Input & Data Validation
- Enable uploading of baseline coverage data directly from Excel.
- Show warnings if baseline coverage values exceed 100%.
– Dataset Availability
- Allow downloading of all input datasets (PIN, coverage, unit costs) in CSV or Excel format.
– Results Export
- Enable export of filtered results for selected interventions.
- Make all tables, figures, and results downloadable (CSV, XLSX, PNG, PDF).
– Definitions & Guidance
- Add a definitions section and hover-over explanations for all columns and metrics.
4. User Experience & Communication
– Documentation
- Develop a well-formatted website and PDF manual with technical and non-technical materials.
- Prepare a full user manual with instructional videos and training modules.
– In-Tool Guidance
- Make documentation accessible directly inside the FairChoices tool, covering model overview, evidence, website use, and functions.
5. Website & Outreach
– Website Redesign
- Highlight FairChoices’ unique focus on equity, fairness, and ethics beyond traditional CEA.
– Country Applications
- Update the list of countries where FairChoices has been applied, including short descriptions of usage.

- Add a homepage section showing current functionality, future plans, and team priorities.
- Include timelines, postponed tasks, next meetings, and a request form for new priorities.
6. Miscellaneous
– Tanzania Dataset
- Split the Tanzania dataset (TZA) into two parts (TZZ and TZM) and include them in the tool.
– Localization
- Add multilingual support for French, Portuguese, and other languages.
